Account Executive, GovCon

We're hiring an Account Executive to drive new business with small-to-midsize government contractors in the DC metro area and beyond. Basis is a new kind of tool for an industry that's been stuck on spreadsheets, and you'll be on the front lines of that transition.
Your territory will include GovCon firms with 50-500 employees who are winning contracts but struggling to scale their estimation and pricing workflows. You'll run the full sales cycle from prospecting through close, with support from our solutions engineering and marketing teams.
This is a ground-floor sales role with real equity upside. If you've sold into the GovCon ecosystem before and want to be part of building a category, this is it.
What you’ll do
- Prospect and qualify new business opportunities with SMB government contractors
- Manage the full sales cycle from initial outreach through contract negotiation and close
- Conduct product demonstrations tailored to each prospect's estimation and compliance workflows
- Build and maintain a healthy pipeline using disciplined CRM hygiene and forecasting practices
- Develop relationships with key stakeholders including pricing managers, CFOs, and capture leads
- Collaborate with product and marketing teams to refine messaging and identify market opportunities
What we’re looking for
- 3+ years of B2B SaaS sales experience with a track record of meeting or exceeding quota
- Experience selling into government contracting firms or adjacent regulated industries
- Strong understanding of the GovCon ecosystem, including procurement cycles and key stakeholders
- Excellent presentation and communication skills for both technical and executive audiences
- Self-motivated with the ability to build pipeline independently in a startup environment
- Willingness to travel for industry events, customer meetings, and conferences (up to 25%)
Nice to have
- Existing relationships with GovCon firms in the DC metro area
- Experience selling cost estimation, ERP, or financial planning tools
- Familiarity with SBIR/STTR programs and small business set-aside markets
- Experience as an early sales hire at a seed or Series A startup
